Thailand AI News: Thailand’s small and medium-sized enterprises are set to receive a major technological boost following the launch of the “AI Ready for SMEs” initiative, a new collaboration between AIS Business and Microsoft Thailand aimed at accelerating the adoption of artificial intelligence across the country’s business sector. The ambitious program seeks to empower Thai entrepreneurs with practical AI tools, specialized training, and industry-focused innovations that can help businesses improve productivity, strengthen competitiveness, and achieve sustainable growth in an increasingly digital economy.

With more than 3.13 million SMEs operating in Thailand and accounting for approximately 99.6 percent of all businesses nationwide, the importance of this sector to the country’s economic health cannot be overstated. SMEs contribute significantly to employment, income generation, and national GDP growth. Yet despite their importance, many have struggled to embrace digital transformation due to limitations in expertise, resources, and investment capacity. In response to these challenges, AIS Business and Microsoft have developed a comprehensive strategy designed to make AI technology more accessible, affordable, and practical for businesses of all sizes.

Positioning itself as a national digital infrastructure leader, AIS Business believes that AI will become one of the most important drivers of future economic growth. The partnership with Microsoft reflects a shared vision of helping Thai enterprises navigate the rapidly evolving technological landscape. This Thailand AI News report highlights a major shift in how advanced technologies are being delivered to the SME sector, moving beyond large enterprises and into the hands of smaller businesses that form the backbone of the economy.

Bringing Enterprise-Level AI Within Reach

At the heart of the initiative is a commitment to democratizing access to advanced AI technologies. Historically, many sophisticated AI solutions were viewed as tools reserved for large corporations with significant budgets and dedicated IT teams. The “AI Ready for SMEs” project seeks to challenge that perception by offering tailored solutions specifically designed for the needs and realities of small and medium-sized enterprises.

AIS Business and Microsoft have developed service packages that combine Microsoft’s cutting-edge AI technologies with AIS’s network infrastructure and customer support capabilities. The objective is to remove barriers that often prevent SMEs from experimenting with and adopting new technologies.

Mr. Phupha Ekavipat, Head of Corporate Banking Group at Advanced Info Service Public Company Limited (AIS), emphasized that AIS remains committed to strengthening Thai businesses through comprehensive digital infrastructure and services. He noted that SMEs play a critical role in generating economic activity, creating employment opportunities, and driving national development. As technology and business competition continue to evolve at an unprecedented pace, AIS aims to ensure that Thai entrepreneurs have access to the tools and support necessary to thrive in the AI era.

The collaboration also represents an important integration of intelligent communications networks and world-class AI capabilities. By combining these strengths, AIS Business and Microsoft hope to create smart business solutions that deliver measurable results while remaining easy to implement and manage.

Three Strategic Pillars Driving the Initiative

The “AI Ready for SMEs” project is built around three key strategic pillars designed to address technology access, workforce readiness, and innovation development.

-Affordable AI Packages for SMEs

The first pillar focuses on enabling SMEs to access AI technologies through specially designed service packages. One of the flagship offerings is the SME AI Ready package, which combines Microsoft 365 with Microsoft Copilot, Microsoft’s AI-powered productivity assistant.

Through this package, businesses can leverage AI-enhanced tools for document creation, communication, data analysis, and workflow automation. The service is supported by AIS Service Desk specialists who are available around the clock through Hotline 1740, providing businesses with expert assistance whenever needed.

Recognizing that many SMEs may be taking their first steps into AI adoption, the initiative includes educational incentives. The first 1,000 customers subscribing to the Copilot package will receive complimentary access to specialized Copilot workshops. Businesses purchasing ten or more licenses will also benefit from private on-site training sessions conducted at their offices. These programs are designed to help organizations understand how AI can be effectively integrated into their daily operations and maximize the value of their technology investments.

-Building AI Skills Across Thailand

The second pillar centers on education and workforce development. While access to technology is important, successful AI adoption also requires a workforce capable of understanding and applying these tools effectively.

To address this need, AIS and Microsoft will conduct a nationwide AI skills development campaign through roadshows and training events. Activities will begin in Bangkok before expanding into key economic provinces across all seven regions of Thailand.

The initiative aims to directly enhance AI knowledge among more than 700 SMEs by the end of 2026. Participants will gain practical insights into AI implementation, digital transformation strategies, and productivity-enhancing technologies.

Beyond physical events, the program will also expand learning opportunities through digital channels. Microsoft has integrated AI learning content from its Microsoft Elevate program into AIS’s online learning platform, enabling entrepreneurs and employees to access training resources based on their specific business needs and schedules.

This approach reflects a growing recognition that AI literacy is becoming a critical business competency. As organizations increasingly rely on intelligent technologies, the ability to understand and utilize AI effectively may become a key differentiator between businesses that thrive and those that struggle to remain competitive.

-AI Agents Designed for Real Business Needs

The third pillar introduces one of the most innovative aspects of the project: SME AI Agents.

These ready-to-use AI solutions are designed to help businesses automate tasks, improve decision-making, and streamline operations. Through customizable AI Agent Templates built on Microsoft Copilot technology, SMEs can create business-specific digital assistants tailored to their unique requirements.

The first offering under this strategy is a Business Assistant AI solution. This intelligent assistant is designed to provide business owners with more accurate recommendations and insights while helping teams work more efficiently.

Future development plans include expanding AI agent capabilities into additional business functions such as human resources and finance. These enhancements could allow SMEs to automate recruitment support, employee management, financial analysis, budgeting processes, and other critical business activities.

AIS and Microsoft also plan to develop industry-specific AI solutions. One example already being explored is AI Agents tailored for manufacturing facilities. Such solutions could help factories optimize production workflows, monitor performance, improve quality control, and identify opportunities for operational improvements.

The long-term goal is to create a growing ecosystem of AI innovations specifically designed for the Thai business environment.

AI Levels the Playing Field for SMEs

Mr. Thanawat Suthamphan, Managing Director of Microsoft Thailand and Emerging Markets, highlighted the transformative potential of AI for small businesses.

According to him, traditional barriers that once limited digital transformation efforts—including budget constraints, limited expertise, and workforce shortages—are becoming significantly less restrictive in the age of AI. As advanced technologies become more accessible, SMEs now have unprecedented opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce operational costs, make smarter decisions, and unlock new growth potential.

He emphasized that competitiveness in the AI era is no longer determined primarily by organizational size. Instead, success increasingly depends on how quickly businesses can adapt to changing conditions and effectively implement new technologies.

For Thai SMEs, AI presents opportunities not only to increase productivity but also to foster innovation and expand into new markets. Microsoft believes that its collaboration with AIS Business will provide entrepreneurs with the technology, skills, and support systems needed to convert potential into measurable business outcomes.

Strengthening Thailand’s Economic Foundation

Support for the initiative extends beyond the technology sector. Mr. Supree Thongphet, President of the Thai Federation of Small and Medium Enterprises, welcomed the project as an important step toward strengthening the competitiveness of Thai entrepreneurs.

He noted that AI technology has the potential to significantly improve operational efficiency, increase business competitiveness, and reinforce the broader economic foundation of the country. By providing secure, accessible, and practical AI solutions alongside continuous skills development and support, the project can help close the technology gap that has historically separated many SMEs from larger organizations.

The federation views the initiative as an opportunity to create new business possibilities, encourage innovation, and position Thai SMEs more effectively in international markets.

A New Chapter for Thailand’s AI Economy

The “AI Ready for SMEs” project, scheduled to run from mid-June through September 2026, represents more than a technology deployment initiative. It reflects a broader movement toward building an AI-enabled economy where businesses of every size can participate in and benefit from digital transformation.

As artificial intelligence continues to reshape industries worldwide, Thailand’s ability to empower its SME sector may prove crucial in determining the country’s future economic competitiveness. By combining accessible technology, nationwide education programs, and practical AI innovations, AIS Business and Microsoft are attempting to create an environment where smaller enterprises can harness the same transformative capabilities that were once available only to large corporations.

The success of this initiative could become a defining example of how public-private collaboration and strategic technology partnerships can accelerate national digital transformation while ensuring that economic opportunities are distributed across businesses of all sizes. If the program achieves its objectives, it may help create a stronger, more resilient, and innovation-driven SME sector capable of leading Thailand into the next phase of its digital economy.
