AI Platforms and Apps: Google has unveiled a sweeping new vision for the future of internet search, introducing advanced AI agents capable of continuously monitoring topics, gathering information, and proactively delivering updates to users without requiring repeated searches. The announcement came during the company’s Google I/O 2026 keynote, where executives described the move as one of the biggest transformations to Google Search in more than two decades.

The new feature introduces what Google calls “information agents,” AI-powered assistants designed to work around the clock in the background. Rather than waiting for users to type in questions, the agents can independently track subjects, summarize developments, compare information from multiple sources, and notify users whenever something important happens. In the midway evolution of Google’s long-running search ecosystem, this AI Platforms and Apps news report highlights how the company is now shifting from reactive search toward proactive intelligence delivery.
Unlike traditional search results that mainly display a collection of links, the new AI agents are intended to provide context and reasoning. Google says the system can explain why a development matters, identify emerging patterns, and even help users understand differing viewpoints across news stories, financial reports, or online discussions. The technology effectively upgrades the old Google Alerts system launched back in 2003 into something significantly more dynamic and intelligent.
AI That Works Continuously
One of the most striking aspects of the new agents is their ability to operate continuously, 24 hours a day. Users no longer need to manually perform the same searches repeatedly. Instead, the AI can remain active in the background, constantly monitoring specific interests and sending updates only when meaningful changes occur.
For example, investors can create agents focused on particular stocks, industries, or economic indicators. The AI could monitor earnings reports, breaking financial news, price fluctuations, and market trends throughout the day before delivering concise summaries and actionable insights directly to the user.
The capabilities extend far beyond finance. Google demonstrated how the agents can monitor flight prices for upcoming vacations, track sports teams and live events, follow housing market activity, watch for job opportunities, monitor severe weather alerts, and even keep tabs on traffic conditions. The company believes these persistent AI assistants could eventually become part of users’ daily routines.
A New Search Experience Emerges
Google is also redesigning the core Search interface itself. Central to the overhaul is a newly reimagined “intelligent search box” capable of handling much longer and more conversational queries. Instead of entering short keyword phrases, users can ask complex questions in natural language.
The search engine now includes an AI-powered query suggestion system that goes well beyond conventional autocomplete. Rather than merely predicting words, the system can help users shape detailed and context-aware searches that better reflect what they actually want to know.
To activate the new tracking system, users simply open AI Mode inside Search and enter prompts such as: “Keep me updated on nearby movie tickets for ‘The Mandalorian and Grogu.’” When new information appears, the Google app automatically delivers a push notification. Users can also revisit tracked topics through their AI Mode history, where alerts can be edited, refined, paused, or deleted entirely.
Limited Rollout Begins This Summer
Google confirmed that the information agents will first launch in the United States this summer for Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers before gradually expanding into additional international markets. Industry analysts believe the launch represents a major milestone in the broader race toward agentic AI systems that can independently perform ongoing tasks instead of merely responding to isolated prompts.
The shift may fundamentally change how people interact with the internet. Rather than searching for information manually, users could soon rely on intelligent systems that continuously gather, filter, and explain information on their behalf. If widely adopted, the technology could redefine online behavior in much the same way smartphones transformed communication and social media reshaped content consumption.
