Announced in Bangkok, the OpenAI x MHESI AI Accelerator will run for eight weeks and support 10 startups developing solutions across healthcare, wellness and education. Midway between experimentation and commercial deployment, this Thailand AI News report highlights a significant development for Thailand’s technology ecosystem: the programme is OpenAI’s first public-private partnership with the Thai government specifically focused on supporting local startups. The initiative is also being delivered with the National Innovation Agency (NIA), Mahidol University and Techsauce.
Turning AI Prototypes into Products People Can Trust
The accelerator addresses one of the biggest challenges facing emerging AI companies. Producing an impressive demonstration is relatively straightforward compared with building a dependable product capable of operating at scale.
Real-world systems require extensive testing, feedback from representative users, safeguards, privacy and security controls, sustainable economics and evidence that the technology actually performs as intended. Those requirements become especially important when AI enters sensitive environments such as hospitals and classrooms.
Throughout the programme, founders will work with OpenAI mentors and specialists from Thailand’s technology, research and startup communities to close that gap between prototype and deployment.
Thailand Emerges as a Major AI User
The initiative arrives as AI adoption accelerates rapidly across Thailand.
According to OpenAI’s internal data, Thailand is already among the world’s top 20 countries for weekly active ChatGPT users. Even more strikingly, weekly active Codex usage in Thailand has increased more than 350-fold since the beginning of 2026, putting the country among the global top 20 for Codex usage as well.
That growth suggests Thai developers, entrepreneurs and businesses are increasingly incorporating AI into software development, product creation and everyday professional work.
The challenge now is converting this enthusiasm and technical experimentation into sustainable companies and products capable of delivering measurable benefits.
Ten Thai Startups Selected
The accelerator’s inaugural cohort is divided evenly between medical and wellness AI and education-focused companies.
The 10 participating startups are CARIVA, Wello Food, Dietz, Precisionize, FitSloth, Curico, insKru, Floaino, EasyKids Robotics and Globish. They were selected with involvement from NIA, the Ministry of Education and the MHESI innovation network. Some previously participated in the AIAT × OpenAI Codex Hackathon Bangkok earlier in 2026.
Healthcare and education have particular significance for Thailand. An ageing population is increasing demand for better prevention, healthcare services and technologies supporting independent living, while improved education and digital skills will be essential to maintaining the country’s competitiveness.

OpenAI Provides Credits, Models and Mentors
Each participating company will receive US$2,000 in OpenAI API credits, individual technical guidance, access to OpenAI’s latest frontier models and a dedicated mentor for the duration of the programme.
Weekly sessions will address product design, engineering, automated testing, evaluation, responsible AI, privacy, security, cost management, business growth and fundraising.
MHESI will connect participants with Thailand’s research and talent networks, NIA will provide links to the funding and growth ecosystem, and Mahidol University will contribute academic expertise and mentors.
Every startup must establish a specific product, pilot, evaluation or commercial milestone. At the programme’s end, teams are expected to demonstrate a working product or substantial improvement, evidence from representative users, preliminary evaluation results and a credible route towards implementation.
AI Could Transform Hospital Phone Lines
CARIVA offers a particularly practical example of what the accelerator hopes to achieve.
The Thai company is developing a multilingual voice agent for hospital telephone services that can communicate in a patient’s preferred language, respond to routine requests such as appointment scheduling and recognize situations where callers could be describing medical emergencies.
CARIVA plans to work with OpenAI on evaluation techniques and steering strategies for its real-time speech model, with the goal of deploying an initial capability into the live telephone workflow of a pilot hospital by Demo Day.
Curico Takes AI into Thai Classrooms
Education startup Curico is meanwhile developing AI-powered tools for children, families and educators, including technology designed to support hands-on activities, storytelling and personalized feedback.
Its ambitions for the accelerator are extensive. By Demo Day, Curico aims to pilot its platform in Bangkok Metropolitan Administration childcare centers, creating a potential route towards more than 200 centers.
The company also intends to train over 200 teachers through an AI storybook workshop, test AI-assisted grading at Chulalongkorn University, establish additional school pilots with government partners and expand its family learning platform beyond 1,000 monthly active users.
November Demo Day Could Be the Real Test
The accelerator will culminate in a Demo Day in Bangkok in November 2026. Startups will demonstrate their products, present user evidence and evaluation results, and explain how they intend to deploy and grow their technologies.
Investors, government agencies, universities, hospitals, schools, prospective customers and other organizations are expected to participate, potentially providing the connections needed to turn successful prototypes into sustainable commercial or public-sector implementations.
More importantly, the programme is being positioned as the beginning of a longer-term effort rather than a one-off startup initiative. Bringing government, academia, technology companies, investors and entrepreneurs into the same development pipeline could establish a repeatable model for moving Thai AI innovation from experimentation into deployment.
If the first cohort demonstrates measurable results, the significance could extend well beyond these 10 companies. Thailand already has rapidly expanding AI adoption and substantial expertise in healthcare, education and software development. Building stronger pathways between that talent, advanced AI models, investment and real customers could determine whether locally developed technology remains experimental or evolves into globally competitive products built in Thailand.
