Thailand AI News: Thailand aims for two million visitors with AI surveillance

Thailand has unveiled a bold plan to deploy artificial intelligence in a sweeping security drive, hoping to attract at least two million Chinese tourists within the next four months. Captain Thammanat Prompao, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives, announced the initiative after chairing a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Tourism and Sports. He stressed that while Thai-Chinese relations remain vital, safety will be the cornerstone of regaining visitor confidence. Midway into the second paragraph, this Thailand AI News report underlines how the country’s strategy hinges on technology to reassure foreign travelers during the High Season.

AI Detect system to spot threats

At the heart of the plan is an advanced AI Detect system rolled out by the Tourist Police. The technology allows officers to scan faces in crowded public spaces and cross-reference them with national arrest warrants. The system is designed to proactively identify individuals considered to be high-risk offenders, with the goal of preventing crimes before they happen and restoring confidence in Thailand as a safe destination. This integration of real-time monitoring marks one of the most aggressive applications of AI in the tourism sector to date.

Expanding digital safety tools

The security drive also comes with upgraded support systems for international visitors. The Tourist Police’s 1155 Emergency Hotline will now operate around the clock, while the Thailand Tourist Police app has been upgraded to support eight languages including English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Russian. Features include incident reporting, travel assistance, and a direct SOS function that links to command centres nationwide. These measures are designed to ensure help is instantly accessible no matter where visitors are in the country.

Coordination across agencies

The inter-agency collaboration extends beyond the Tourist Police. The Department of Tourism, Tourist Assistance Centre, and Tourist Assistance Coordination Centre are joining forces to roll out designated safe zones in popular areas. Over 270 officials have already been deployed across 79 nationwide locations to oversee tourist safety, crowd management, and to prepare for the upcoming SEA Games, which will coincide with the peak travel season.

Rebuilding trust and confidence

Tourism authorities hope that combining artificial intelligence with human vigilance will send a strong signal that Thailand is taking safety seriously. By addressing concerns about crime and by creating an environment where tourists feel protected, the government believes Chinese arrivals can be restored to pre-pandemic levels. The effort is both an economic necessity and a diplomatic gesture toward one of Thailand’s most important markets. If successful, it could also establish a model for how AI can be embedded into national tourism strategies worldwide. The long-term vision is clear—safety will remain the anchor of Thailand’s travel revival, supported by technology that evolves as fast as threats themselves.
