What To Know

  • This AI News report finds that the update takes the concept further by giving people the ability to share their personalized assistants in much the same way as they would share documents or files, opening the door for greater collaboration and wider adoption.
  • A new sharing option makes it possible to grant permission to view, use, or even edit a Gem depending on the user’s preference.

AI News: Google Enables Sharing of Custom Gemini AI Assistants Called Gems

Google has announced a new update that allows users to share their custom Gemini AI assistants, known as Gems, with others. Gems were originally introduced last year as part of Gemini Advanced, enabling subscribers to design specialized AI helpers tailored for specific tasks such as writing, tutoring, career advice, coding support, or brainstorming. This AI News report finds that the update takes the concept further by giving people the ability to share their personalized assistants in much the same way as they would share documents or files, opening the door for greater collaboration and wider adoption.

How the Sharing Feature Works

Users can now share their Gems through the Gem Manager interface. A new sharing option makes it possible to grant permission to view, use, or even edit a Gem depending on the user’s preference. This not only saves time but also ensures consistency, since teams or families no longer need to build multiple versions of similar assistants. For example, a group of colleagues could share one Gem designed for project planning, while families could pass around a Gem designed for meal preparation or travel coordination.

Expanding Availability of Gems

Initially, access to Gems was restricted to Gemini Advanced subscribers, as well as business and enterprise customers, across more than 150 countries. Over time, Google expanded access to all users, allowing even non-subscribers to build and interact with Gems. With the new sharing feature, the reach and usefulness of these assistants increase significantly, making them a more central part of daily work, study, and creativity.

Why It Matters for Thailand and Beyond

For Thailand’s fast-growing digital and creative sectors, the ability to share Gems could be transformative. Teams in co-working spaces, educators guiding students, or startups collaborating on new ideas can now streamline their processes by relying on shared AI assistants designed with local needs in mind. The feature could help reduce duplication of effort, enhance productivity, and foster new ways of working together.

Looking Ahead

The rollout of Gem sharing highlights a broader trend in how AI is becoming more personal, customizable, and communal. Instead of everyone building isolated tools, there may be growing opportunities to exchange and refine shared assistants, creating informal marketplaces of expertise. At the same time, careful attention will need to be paid to issues such as privacy, security, and how much trust to place in collaborators who are granted editing access. As these tools evolve, they may reshape how individuals and organizations approach AI-driven support in everyday life.
