What To Know

  • The UOB FinLab division leads the project, offering not only training and workshops but also an AI Readiness Index Survey that assesses a company’s preparedness across strategy, data management, human resources, and infrastructure.
  • With strong backing from both private corporations and government agencies, the UOB AI Ready Project stands as a blueprint for sustainable AI empowerment in Thailand’s growing digital economy.

Thailand AI PR News: Empowering Local Businesses in the Digital Age

Thailand is accelerating the digital transformation of its small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through an ambitious collaboration led by UOB Thailand. The “UOB AI Ready Project” is designed to guide Thai SMEs from conceptual understanding to practical implementation of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. In a landscape where AI has become a crucial driver of global competitiveness, this initiative aims to ensure that local entrepreneurs are not left behind. According to the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (depa), nearly 70 percent of Thai SMEs have already begun shifting from manual operations to digital platforms—a strong foundation for broader AI integration.

Through this Thailand AI PR News report, it becomes evident that UOB’s vision focuses on democratizing access to AI tools once reserved for large corporations. The UOB FinLab division leads the project, offering not only training and workshops but also an AI Readiness Index Survey that assesses a company’s preparedness across strategy, data management, human resources, and infrastructure. This structured approach allows businesses to identify gaps and plan sustainable AI adoption paths.

Private and Public Sectors Unite to Build an AI Ecosystem

The success of the UOB AI Ready Project is underpinned by an unprecedented partnership between the public and private sectors. Participants include depa, the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), Microsoft Thailand, ZWIZ.AI, and CERO. Together, these organizations are creating a dynamic ecosystem that promotes AI-driven innovation for Thailand’s future economy.

Banlang Wongthawatchai, Head of Digital Engagement & Ecosystem Partnerships at UOB Thailand, emphasized that AI helps SMEs reduce operational costs and boost revenues by 20–30 percent. “This is the bridge between interest and execution,” he said. Microsoft Thailand’s Chief Operating Officer, Wasupon Tharakkan, elaborated that AI empowers staff by automating repetitive tasks, cuts time and costs, generates market insights, enhances personalized marketing, and allows entrepreneurs to focus on business growth strategies.

Government Backing for Sustainable AI Adoption

Government agencies are also stepping in to ensure the long-term sustainability of AI adoption. Dr. Preesarn Rakwatin, Acting Deputy Director-General of depa, highlighted the role of tax incentives and digital support services that make it easier for SMEs to adopt technology. These include a 200% tax deduction for digital investments and exemptions under the BOI framework. NSTDA’s ITAP program, led by Dr. Nanthiya Wiriyabandhan, also provides 50% funding support and expert consultations to minimize risks for SMEs integrating AI into operations.

Real SME Success Stories Emerging

Several entrepreneurs participating in the UOB AI Ready Project are already finding tangible benefits. Lake Communication plans to use AI for inventory and consumer analytics. Chic Republic foresees using chatbots and HR AI to boost service quality. Cheetah Concrete intends to apply AI for marketing and production optimization, while T.C.S. Industrial Tapioca Starch is integrating AI for quality control and agricultural market forecasting. These examples reflect a broader shift—Thai SMEs are no longer hesitant about technology but are actively pursuing AI as a path toward modernization and efficiency.

The project signifies more than digital adoption; it marks a cultural shift in how Thai SMEs perceive innovation and global competitiveness. With strong backing from both private corporations and government agencies, the UOB AI Ready Project stands as a blueprint for sustainable AI empowerment in Thailand’s growing digital economy.
