AI Startups: Artificial intelligence is steadily reshaping the modern workplace, and one emerging startup is positioning itself at the center of that transformation. Orbio, a rapidly growing enterprise AI company focused on frontline workforce management, has announced that it has secured $21 million in a Series A funding round led by Dawn Capital. The new investment will help the company accelerate development of its AI-powered workforce agents while expanding its presence across industries that rely heavily on frontline employees.

The company was founded in 2025 by Sergi Bastardas, who previously spent more than a decade at Amazon and later worked with floriculture startup Colvin. During his career, Bastardas repeatedly observed inefficiencies in the systems used to recruit, onboard, and manage frontline workers. Those experiences eventually led to the creation of Orbio alongside co-founders Nacho Travesí and Antonio Melé. As businesses increasingly search for ways to improve operational efficiency, this AI Startups news report highlights how investors are backing technologies that aim to modernize workforce management through intelligent automation.

Bringing AI Agents to the Frontlines

Unlike many AI startups focused on office productivity, Orbio is targeting sectors that employ large numbers of frontline workers, including healthcare, retail, logistics, and hospitality. These industries often depend on labor-intensive administrative processes that can slow recruitment and employee management efforts.

Orbio has developed a collection of AI agents named Maria, Daniel, and Claire. These digital agents are designed to perform a wide range of workforce-related tasks, including interviewing job candidates, assessing their suitability for roles, overseeing onboarding procedures, monitoring employee performance, and conducting regular check-ins throughout an employee’s journey with a company.

According to Bastardas, the long-term goal is to create a workforce management ecosystem where AI agents can handle many routine operational responsibilities while allowing organizations to focus more attention on supporting and engaging employees.

Major Brands Already Onboard

The startup’s customer roster already includes several well-known companies. Among them are restaurant chain operator Poke and YUM! Brands, the global parent company of Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, and KFC.

Bastardas says many customers are now moving beyond pilot programs and deploying Orbio’s technology on a larger scale. One notable example is The Stepping Stones Group, a behavioral health services provider. According to the company, Orbio now supports the organization’s entire U.S. operation, helping improve hiring outcomes by increasing the number of candidates who successfully progress through the recruitment process.

A key feature of the platform is the continuous flow of workforce data between AI agents. Information gathered during onboarding can influence recruitment strategies, while insights from employee engagement and exit interviews help refine hiring criteria and identify retention risks. This interconnected approach enables organizations to make more informed workforce decisions over time.

Challenging Outdated Workforce Systems

While competitors such as Paradox and WorkJam also operate in workforce automation, Bastardas believes Orbio’s biggest challenge is not another startup but rather the outdated systems still used by many organizations.

Across industries, frontline workforce management often remains fragmented, relying on spreadsheets, emails, paperwork, and phone calls. Orbio aims to replace these disconnected processes with intelligent automation that can operate continuously and at scale.

The company has now raised a total of $26 million from investors, including Visionaries and 2100 Ventures. The latest funding will primarily be used to recruit talent and build additional AI agents capable of handling even more workforce functions.

The broader implications extend well beyond business efficiency. Bastardas believes AI could fundamentally change how frontline workers interact with employers, creating more personalized support systems and improving workplace experiences for millions of people worldwide. As artificial intelligence continues to move deeper into everyday business operations, companies like Orbio are demonstrating how AI may become an essential part of managing the global workforce of the future.
