Almost 90% of Thai Companies Unready for AI Cyberattacks

What To Know

  • Research by technology giant Cisco reveals that only 7 percent of Thai organizations achieved its highest cybersecurity readiness classification in 2025, leaving an overwhelming majority without the comprehensive defenses associated with that benchmark.
  • As this Thailand AI News report examines, the growing sophistication of AI-assisted hacking is exposing weaknesses that conventional security measures may struggle to address, particularly when businesses lack experienced cybersecurity personnel and coordinated protection strategies.

Thailand’s corporate sector is facing a potentially dangerous cybersecurity crisis as artificial intelligence transforms the methods criminals use to infiltrate business networks. Research by technology giant Cisco reveals that only 7 percent of Thai organizations achieved its highest cybersecurity readiness classification in 2025, leaving an overwhelming majority without the comprehensive defenses associated with that benchmark.

The findings raise serious concerns about Thailand’s ability to protect sensitive information, financial systems, and essential digital infrastructure. As this Thailand AI News report examines, the growing sophistication of AI-assisted hacking is exposing weaknesses that conventional security measures may struggle to address, particularly when businesses lack experienced cybersecurity personnel and coordinated protection strategies.

Cybersecurity Preparedness Falls Behind Emerging Threats

Cisco’s 2025 Cybersecurity Readiness Index found that Thailand’s proportion of organizations classified as Mature declined from 9 percent in 2024 to just 7 percent in 2025. The assessment measures preparedness across identity protection, network resilience, machine trustworthiness, cloud security, and AI defenses.

Although the figures do not establish that every organization outside the Mature category is defenseless, they highlight substantial shortcomings in the deployment of advanced cybersecurity safeguards.

More alarmingly, 91 percent of surveyed Thai organizations reported experiencing AI-related security incidents during the preceding year, illustrating how quickly emerging threats are affecting businesses.

AI-Powered Hacking Creates New Dangers

Artificial intelligence is changing cybercrime by helping attackers produce convincing phishing messages, impersonate trusted individuals, and identify potential weaknesses more efficiently.

Generative AI can make fraudulent communications appear remarkably authentic, increasing the likelihood that employees will disclose credentials, authorize suspicious transactions, or unknowingly introduce malicious software into corporate networks.

Attackers can also exploit poorly secured cloud environments and compromised accounts to move through interconnected systems.

The consequences extend beyond stolen information. Successful intrusions can interrupt operations, expose customer records, generate financial losses, and damage business relationships.

Employees Remain a Critical Weakness

The Cisco findings reveal another troubling vulnerability involving cybersecurity awareness.

Only 57 percent of Thai respondents expressed confidence that employees fully understood AI-related threats, while 47 percent believed their teams understood how criminals were using AI to conduct sophisticated attacks.

These knowledge gaps are particularly concerning because increasingly realistic social engineering attacks can bypass technical safeguards by manipulating human judgment.

Organizations therefore need continuous employee education, stronger identity verification procedures, and practical exercises simulating AI-assisted fraud.

Businesses Must Strengthen Their Defenses

Security specialists increasingly emphasize combining automated threat detection with human oversight, incident response planning, and regular vulnerability assessments.

Thailand’s businesses also need stronger authentication, carefully controlled system access, protected backups, and clearly defined procedures for responding to ransomware and data breaches.

Meanwhile, research published by Thailand’s National Electronics and Computer Technology Center in September 2026 found that 53.7 percent of surveyed organizations had adopted AI, reinforcing the importance of developing security governance alongside technological expansion.

Thailand Faces an Urgent Digital Security Challenge

Thailand’s cybersecurity preparedness must improve as AI adoption accelerates across its economy. Companies that postpone investments in personnel, technology, and employee awareness risk exposing themselves to increasingly sophisticated attacks. Stronger governance, continuous testing, and coordinated defensive strategies will be essential to protecting businesses and sustaining confidence in the country’s digital future.
